Bishnu Prasad Aryal
Kathmandu, March 27

Some 5,000 people who thronged the Yog Vigyan Shivir-2010 to learn Yoga practices from Yoga Guru Swami Ram Dev were compelled to return home without practices due to the lack of stage set for the camp. The one third of additional space has been widened to adjust the interested people today.

According to the Main Organising Committee, about 40,000 tickets were sold to the people for learning Yoga practices in the camp. The place for 30,000 people was arranged. However, some 35,000 people were adjusted at the arranged stage.

Rajani Sharma from Kupondol in Lalitpur said that she was forced to go back home owing to the narrow space in the camp. “I could not get any space to sit for the camp as it was already occupied. Though I had taken ticket I arrived here a bit delay,” she said.

Prabhari Babita Karki, head of the Central Zone Yoga Committee, said, “Nearly 5,000 people were forced to return this morning because of the high interest of people to take part in the camp and lack of adequate space for all interested,” she said. “Therefore, we have widened the one third of the space today to adjust the comers from tomorrow,” she added.

Karki said that innumerable calls were received different parts of various districts to take part in the camp. “The number of participants will reach more than 40,000 tomorrow,” she said. There are five kinds of visitors—gold paying Rs 500, VIP paying Rs 1,100, VVIP paying Rs 2,100, invitees and free pass.

KATHMANDU: About 3,000 people received treatment and free-check up at the Yoga Science Camp on the first day today. About 5,000 people were queuing up to check up their health as per Ayurved principle. Forty vaidhyas from India were checking up health of people. Addressing the Yoga Science Camp that began at 5:00 this morning, Swami Ram Dev said, “There are 25,000 Yoga teachers in Nepal. I am dedicated to produce 100,000 such teachers here to teach the Yoga in order to make people healthy and cultured,” he said. “Yoga makes people healthy and cultured that they would help develop the nation,” he added.

Swami Ram Dev is going to inaugurate three yogpeeths at Mandikhatar in Kathmandu, Dhulikhel of Kavre and Syangja in Nepal this time.  He has also planed to laid foundation of eight yoga practices centres including Mahendranagar, Dhangadhi and Chitwan, said Karki.

Holy shrine of Pashupati stained in illicit activities

Bishnu Prasad Aryal
Kathmandu, March 6

The holy shrine of Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT), place of sanity, spirituality and humanism, has been notoriously stained in indecent, illegal and criminal activities, even by the sages

According to the PADT, some sages sheltering illegally in Ram Mandir at Pashupatinath are also reported to be involved in weapons and narcotics smuggling. There are about five dozens of sages and sadhus hailing from Nepal and India have been living in Ram Mandir. “We are scrutinising the matter in cooperation with the Department of Crime Investigation that informed us about the arms and drug smuggling by the sages,” said Sushil Nahata, member secretary at the PADT.

Sources at PADT, which is enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, informed that those who would be found guilty would be expelled from the area. The guilty will be taken legal actions if proved through investigation, according to the Metropolitan Police Range at Gaushala.

Nahata said that PADT was planning to systemise the shrine in a decent and proper manner against all kinds of malaises. “About 300 shops are illegally stalled inside the area while lands of shrine are encroached, and sand from Bagmati bank inside area is illegally traded,” he said. “One who wants to work fairly is threatened and forced not to take action against the unauthorised practices.”

PADT set to install CCTV cameras by Sunday

KATHMANDU: In a bid to check suspicious activities in the area, PADT is all set to install CCTV cameras by Sunday. “We will fix at least two CC Televisions by Sunday,” said Nahata. “One camera will be installed at the Office of Secretariat and another at the main gate of Pashupatinath Temple,” he added. “The cameras will be gradually installed in different locations of the area where necessary.” Nahata, who was issued death threats three times, has lodged a complaint with District Administration Office and the police seeking security. Nahata was threatened over his mobile phone using public telephone booth and grocery from Teku area.

The PADT, which is spread at the area of 283 hectors of land including settlements, aims at expelling sages involved in arms and drugs smuggling, evicting illegally settled street vendors, evacuating land encroachers from the area, checking illegal trade of sand and concrete and  banning alcohol and meat business in the area.

Narottam Baidya, treasurer at the PADT, also said the illegal and criminal activities are taking place at the shrine though they are strictly banned. “Even sale and consumption of alcohol and animal flesh are prohibited in the area, they are openly traded,” he worried.

However, the attempts to quell illegal and criminal activities in the past could not be successful owing to lack of effective governance and willpower of political parties.

The crimes in the society are alarmingly increasing making commoners’ life vulnerable, said Shiva Sharan Rajbhandari, local and storekeeper at the Pashupatinath temple. “It will be hard to subjugate indecent and illegal activities unless the efficiency and performance of the government and police are professionalised,” he said.

Renovation of historical Pashupati Temple on card

Bishnu Prasad Aryal
Kathmandu, January 7

A plan to widen the courtyard of the Pashupatinath Temple, famous shrine of Hindus enlisted in world heritage site, is afoot to renovation after 42 years.

"The premises will be expanded being based on the classical and archeological values," said Sushil Nahata, member-secretary of the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT). "An 11-member renovation committee, which will complete its study within two months, has been just formed," Nahata told this daily.

Nahata said that the temples adjoining to the premises were deteriorated and wall of Mukti Mandap was badly cracked. "Except southern part, the premises on other sides will be expanded," he said. "The woods on the temples are rotten and damaged by mice," he added. "The roof of main temple is also leaking."

Pashupatinath Temple's existence dates back to 400 AD. According to Gopalraj Vamsavali, the temple was built by Lichchhivi king Supus Padeva, as inscribed in the stone inscription erected by Jayadeva on the premises of Pashupatinath in 753 AD. The temple was reconstructed by a medieval king Shivadeva (1099-1126 AD).
KATHMANDU: The Pashupati Area Development Trust has come up with a new rule effective from January 15 to restrict all the vehicles, shop owners and visitors without permission in the area. "Locals will be issued with five-year pass, shops with one-year, and renting tenants with one-year renewable permission," said Sushil Nahata, member-secretary of PADT. "Parking area has been fixed at Tilganga, Bal Ganesh and Char Shivalaya. The breaching lots will be strictly fined," he added. --
As described in history, this temple was attacked and badly destroyed by Sultan Samsuddin of Bengal in mid 14th Century.  It was only after ten years, in 1360 AD, the temple was reconstructed by Javasimha Ramvardhana.  Renovation work hereafter was taken up by Jyoti Malla in 1416 AD.

The present architectural nature of Pashupatinath temple came into existence as a result of renovation by queen Gangadevi during the reign of Shivasimha Malla (1578-1620 AD). The temple was renovated in 1969 after it had been infested with termites.

According to the PADT, the Pashupati Temple Renovation Sub-Committee includes engineer Shankar Nath Rimal, Prof Biddhya Nath Bhatta, Prof Mukunda Raj Aryal, main priest MahaBaleshwor, Hari Sharan Rajbhandari, Bharat Acharya from Nepal Army, regular devotee Suvas Shanghai, representatives from Department of Archeology and Guthi Corporation each, and Prem Hari Dhungana.

Dhungana said that the preservation planning would be formulated after studying on damaged physical condition of temples. "The classical study is inevitable to preserve the heritage," he said. "Permission from UNESCO is a must to carry out the project."

"The any entry gate of Pashupati premises should not be direct to the main doors of Pashupati Temple. However, the western entry gate was built by then king Mahendra in 1960 stands against the classical value," said Dhungana. "It should be changed," he added.

Narrottam Baidya, treasurer at the PADT, said that there was a need of wide discussion on the issue and to be decided as per the advice and recommendations from all sectors.
Nahata said that the renovation of the temple would begin in the next fiscal. "We need a huge amount for the purpose. We are in search of donors too," he said. "We have already started painting of all the temples inside the PADT area."

Two percent of TB patients in city defaulters

Bishnu Prasad Aryal
Kathmandu, August 21

Two per cent of the tuberculosis patients in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City are found to be defaulters.

“This is very bad sign in controlling TB even in the city areas,” said Dr Babu Ram Gautam, chief at the Public Health Division of the KMC. “The control of TB in city has become more problematic than in the rural areas,” he added.

According to the KMC, there are about 2,000 TB patients and 34 DOTS centres including 14 metropolis centres in the KMC. “Two per cent of the patients do not take full dosage of medicine and discontinue treatment,” said Dr Gautam. “This complication is a result of migration, lack awareness and poverty,” he said.

Migrated workers and low class people discontinue the treatment, as they prefer working for livelihood to visiting the DOTS centres for having doze, said Gautam. “One patient can communicate disease upto 15 people. Sixty per cent of the TB patients are adults”

Cure rate of the TB patients stands at 88 per cent while other statistics are missing due to records unavailable from private clinics and HIV complications. About 6,000 people die of TB every year in the country. However, Nepal is better in DOTS effectiveness among the South-East Asian countries.

“Treatment of TB is possible now at free of cost but the people are still unaware of getting treatment,” said Gautam. “TB bacteria is in a latent condition in about 45 per cent of the total population. It may come into surface anytime when immunity of the people falls down,” he added.

There are some 3,000 DOTS centres in the country and the government has planned to facilitate in all of the health centres and hospitals by 2010. The DOTS method was introduced in four centres in the country in 1995.

Ego is Quest for Self

Mar 30, '08

Do you Have Ego Problem?

Yes, I have. Don't worry about it. Everybody has ego problem to some extent. It is very important to understand oneself, level of consciousness and their activities. Ego is not bad but super ego may be dangerous. Ego and freedom, I think, are two sides of a coin. If you go into the deeper level, they both are one. Super ego may be destructive and harmful to others, and ego is good for human being if it is well understood. Ego is the best or in other words it is the replica of self esteem whereas it does not harm and hurt others and it doesn't like to be hurt or harmed. This level of conscious of ego is the best thing, I have experienced it. Ego is the super freedom emanated from the state of liberty. I have such kind of ego which is not harmful, never disrespects others but does not care others too, it is my freedom. I am proud of my ego which never intends to harm and hurt others. No man can remain alive ego that is the force or energy for struggle, living and justice.

However, I have witnessed a man with obsessive super ego of position and power. His name is Govinda Sharma, but he lacks the every traits of Lord Krishna, teacher of laughing religion and ecstasy with no anxieties and unconsciousness. I saw Govinda very rude, inhumane and sense of evilness. He used to boast upon his power and position. I saw one of his classmate, named Vishnu Poduwal, who was very simple, innocent and an ordinary fellow with hardworking zeal, sense of humanity and justice, and selfless freedom. He did not like to dishonor others and wanted to live in his own way. he was carefree person like an enlightened philosopher. Many people fail to understand such people and they think such persons are very egoist. But the reality is opposite. They seem egoist, however, they are proud of existence and their freedom and justice. Most of the people who are unconscious and are full of meanness and superego see others with their own ego, they fail to understand others due to the lack of consciousness and eyes of justice.

It is an irony Govinda wanted to show and prove how powerful he is with his simple and innocent fellow. Govinda went on harming, torturing and troubling him for not fulfilling Govinda's mean demand related to his family problem. Govinda hammered on Vishnu for his life long and almost destroyed. He became more cruel, severe and robotic and Vishnu never surrendered to him. This continued till his death. Vishnu was clear and determined that he would accept death or ready to die but not to kneel down under Govinda's feet to solve Govinda's problem. Govinda claimed that Vishnu is too egoist and Vishnu realized that Govinda is not a human being. Govinda went on exhibiting his power of position and misuse of the power against humanity. He even never felt that his weakness and problems were being unveiled day by day but never realized his mistakes. Govinda was never ready to accept his weakness and ask Vishnu for help with mutual understanding and respecting humanity. This trend has been going on for ages and ages, and will reamin until the existence will exist on the universe.

Therefore, now you can examine the egos of Govinda and Vishnu. Can you tell me that having ego is wrong or not? Or who is right in the sense of humanity and freedom? Don't worry about it as ego is freedom, force for existence and energy or backbone of progress in life if it does not lead to catastrophe and destruction?

Ignorance is Bliss For him!

May 22, '07

Ignorance is Bliss For him!

He does not care about anything.

The sun was shining as if it was merciless to the living beings. But it was not so, in fact. It was shining to burn the evil things from the earth and to sweep away the dirt and filth accumulated by human being on the city. The sun was inviting a heavy and incessant rain to clean the city.

Rich people smelt perfumes and cosmetics while others were sweating with body odors and laborious deeds. They were on their moods and ways for their own vested purpose, not to blame all, wishing to add one after another compliment of life. Tourists were enjoying their travels to visit the Royal Chitwan National Park, where disappearing Bengal tigers, species of crocodile, many birds, plants, and animals are celebrating the nature together. Tourists enjoyed riding elephants. i was happy to enjoy riding auto rickshaw.

He was pulling rickshaw all day to spend his life in his own way. When he was pulling rickshaw carrying me on the way, he called a woman from her behind during her walks. His face was full of sweats. He had worn a top on his right ear in black checked shirt and blue paint. His slippers were dull like silly dogs barking on the streets. She was in traditional dresses of a woman of suburb. Her lips were red painted and eyes were decorated with black kajol. She was beautiful for him but i was indifferent and aloof to her. He asked her, "Where are you going?" She smiled and said, "There."

I was alone on the two seated rickshaw and he called her to sit by me. She smiled. He again invited her and said, "Come. Sir will not object anything." He addressed me as sir. But she smiled and did not ride the rickshaw because she enjoyed walking on the sun.

He told me that SHE IS THE WOMAN. A CITY BRIDE."She is device or tool for entertainment. I spill my desires on her when i am hot," he whispered slowly. "How old are you? Aren't you married yet?", i asked him. "i am at my thirtees and i have my wife and a daughter," he answered.

"Do you use condom or not? Haven't you heard about deadly diseases?", i questioned him. "I have heard about them but no one has remained away from such indecent activities," he said confidentially. He was just literate.

"How much do you earn daily from your job?", i made another question. "I earn NRs. 300 to 400 each day but i spend on drinks and other entertainment ... like smoking about half of my total income," he answered. "It is my own rickshaw."

He started telling me his stories. His wife has been working in Saudi Arabia and his daughter is a Class Ten student in a local school. He does not care about any STDs.

"What do you think about your wife and daughter?", i asked him. He smiled and kept mum.

Thought is Reflection of FOOD!

Apr 01, '07

The Yoga has categorized the food in three sections: Satwik, Rajasi and Tamasi, which are derived from three qualities of edible elements. They are Satwa, Rajas and Tamas. These days number of vegetarian people are increasing day by day as the science has proved that eating meat is consuming various diseases. No one denies that man is naturally a vegetarian animal. It's characteristics and organs are made of vegetarian nature unlike preys and flesh eating animals.

Satwik: The very food chosen of vegetables with soft, hygienic, digestible are without harmful elements for physical and mental body. Yogis and other meditative persons use it. Albert Einstein, Shakespeare, Leonardo Da Vinci and many more genius persons were vegetarians like Krishna, Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi and others. Peace, love and compassion are its traits. This helps human being rise above and above spiritually.

Rajashi: The food which is spicy, oily and fleshy gives human being energy, anger, and stupidity that inspires human being to violence, killing, fight and crimes. Conspiracy, wildness and brutality are its features.

Tamasi: The food which include rotten things, wine, drugs and many more with bad smelling items. This kind of food is the representation of unconscious, and fainted condition of human being, and Savage nature may be its characteristics.

So choose your kind of food and be yourself as true human beings. It depends on YOU.

We Resemble What We Eat

Mar 25, '07

It is said that face is the context of mind and i say that body is the context of what we eat. The things what we eat determine what we think, how we think and what we do. Our actions are the results of what we eat.

Think twice.

Since the historic age or beginning of the world or creation, living things depend on eating to survive. All the animals have known what to eat or not to eat but unfortunately human being despite most intelligent animal has forgotten what to eat and what to avoid. That is why human being has become mentally, psychologically and physically and spiritually ill.

if u want to be right healthy, do not forget the Yoga and meditation, and the category of foods that is inscribed in the Yoga or holy books of the only Hindus.

Conceive Once.

They are: SATWIK, RAJASI and TAMASI. Search about these three terms and choose your way of eating and be a true mankind.
